Located in the department of the Landes in France and belonging to the municipality of Saint-Julien-en-Born, the seaside resort of Contis-Plage marks the border between Pays des Born and Marensin.
The great Contis Beach is shared with the neighbouring municipality of Lit-et-Mixe and is composed of dunes and slacks. Its five-kilometre-long coastline is limited south by the mouth of the Courant; one mainly practices surfing. It is bordered by a cycle track leading to Mimizan and Cap de l'Homy. The bravest will climb the 183 steps of the lighthouse of Contis, which has the particularity of being painted as a barley sugar, and being located inland. Once at the top, the view is outstanding! The small nearby village of Uza, often attached to Saint-Julien, is a haven of peace that one can explore by bike. Its lake and banks are the perfect place to relax after a day at the beach!
Surfing, canoeing, tree climbing, horse riding ... they are plenty of activities, and the forest of the Landes has many beautiful walks in store. Every Saturday morning, the traditional market enables one to discover the riches of local products and the seasonal markets are held on Wednesdays and Sundays, much to the delight of vacationers. Saint-Julien-en-Born is also famous for the many art exhibitions it hosts in summer.
