Ars en Ré is located southwest of the island of Ré near St Clément-des-Baleines and its lighthouse. Ars en Ré, ranked among the most beautiful villages in France, is easily recognizable with the black and white church bell tower.
Ars en Ré is not the best beach destinations for those who love to suntan on long sandy beaches. There is only one official beach south of the village, which is relatively narrow and where swimming is difficult at low tide. Another beach is located at the village entrance of Pas du Martray (but more used for shore fishing).
However, the village of Ars en Ré exudes a certain charm with its narrow alleyways and the main square where the church stands erect with its bell tower visible from far away and shops around it.
Ars en Ré also has a port north of the village. From it, there are many cycling paths to discover the salt marshes where one can see many birds.
Ars en Ré is a place of relaxation with a spa center (this is not the only center of the Island of Ré). It is ideal for those who want to enjoy the benefits of the sea and rejuvenate.
Those looking for large sandy beaches will go to the beaches of La Couarde or St Clement des Baleines.
