Grande Plage in Saint-Jean-de-Luz - France

Our opinion on the Grande Plage

Grande Beach in St Jean de Luz is the biggest and most beautiful in this seaside destination located downtown. Protected from the Atlantic's waves by three dams, it is the ideal spot for family vacations. We also find kid's clubs here. During the summer, there is a lifeguard (from the begging of June to mid-September and the weekends starting in May – zone closest to the harbor).

Along this beach is a nice promenade extending over one kilometer with a great view of Ciboure and Socoa. On the southernmost part, we can also see the beautiful Basque houses in St Jean de Luz.

Outside of summer it is possible to practice kitesurfing in a reserved zone (attention, it is prohibited during lifeguarding hours), see the map directly on the beach.

Note that we also find a nice little beach (at low tide) to the north of this beach on the Promenade des Roches, named Flots Bleus Beach. More discrete, it proves to be more calm in the summer, but this zone does not have a lifeguard in the summer.

In the summer, there is a maritime shuttle that departs from the dam to join Socoa Beach (arrival near the fort in about 15 minutes).
