About thirty kilometers to the south of Sables d’Olonne, Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard is a small seaside resort of Vendée appreciated for its beaches, its forests and its numerous hiking trails. It is known like the last home of Georges Clémenceau. He came living here in 1919 at 78 years old in a house pose on a dune (he calle dit the shack). At his death, the house was bought by the state and is today a museum that we can visit (National Monuments).
There are several beaches at St Vincent sur Jard in the continuity of the beaches of Jard sur Mer and of those of Longeville sur Mer. That of the Goulet is easily accessible and has a first aid station. That of Clémenceau is located near the property of the « Tigre ». The last one, the nearest of Jard sur Mer, is wilder with some dunes. The three have sand only at tide.
In the surroundings of St Vincent sur Jard, there is La Roche sur Yon, the most important town of the area (it is not on the seaside). The seaside resort of Talmont Saint Hilaire has interesting infrastructures with an 18 holes golf (two courses) and an important marina.
