Tight against the mountains and by the sea, the principality of Monaco is jammed in the Alpes Maritimes department between Cap d’Ail and Roquebrune Cap Martin. 20 km east of Nice, Monaco is often seen as an inaccessible city, worthy of only the most wealthy and international clientele. Accommodations are expensive but daily life is not more expensive than on the Côte d’Azur (prices of restaurants and cafes are often cheaper).
We were attracted by the main sandy beach in Monaco. Even out of season (we were there in December), the sand is perfectly maintained! Everything is designed to give security, accessibility and fun to families. Several ramps provide easy access to the beach; a kindergarten is available on the beach, many restaurants and a beach volleyball court. In the centre of the beach, there is an aid station (even the well-being of the lifeguards is not forgotten, by the way). There are two other bathing areas in Monaco. The first is located below the rock. It is a small secret and unexplored creek. The second is original. It is a dyke converted into a beach at the port Hercule.
The possibilities are endless concerning attractions in Monaco and Monte-Carlo! The oceanographic museum is a must. A tour of the old town with a stop in the palace to see guard mounting (11:55 daily) must also be in the program. Concerning Monte-Carlo, a stop at the casino is a good way to admire the unusual architecture and above all unique cars parked around it.
Nearby, to the east, there are several beautiful beaches in Cap d’Ail with Mala Beach. Towards Italy, the beaches of Roquebrune Cap Martin give a wild side to the east of Cap Martin.
