Information on the beaches and seaside resorts in the Bay of Arcachon

The Bay of Arcachon, with an opening of only 3 km on the Atlantic Ocean between Cap Ferret and the Dune of Pilat, is the largest indentation on Côte d’Argent. Characterized by numerous oyster areas and the famous fishing huts, the Bay of Arcachon is suitable for swimming. There are many beaches. The most famous ones in the south are those of Arcachon, in the west those of Cap Ferret and those of Andernos les Bains in the north. But the various beaches of the Bay of Arcachon are only accessible at high tide (only 40% of the bay are still emerged at low tide).
For those wishing to enjoy the quiet beaches of the bay and the bustle of the ocean, one has to choose between worldly Arcachon and more discreet but no less selective Cap Ferret.
The beaches of Landes on the Atlantic Ocean are located south of the Bay of Arcachon, with huge stretches of sand bordered by thick pinewoods. In the north, the scenery is the same as in the south with some interesting lakes.
