Located on Catalan land, about a dozen kilometers from Perpignan, Elne is a rich seaside destination. Its land is its biggest wealth: vineyards and orchards make up the landscape and there are exceptional festivals such as “Elne Piano” in July and “Musique en Catalogne” in August. The high city is located on a butte that dominates the plain and the cathedral not to be missed! It has been known as the ecclesiastic capital of Roussillon for centuries and many tourists come to visit each year.
The city is preserved and is located six kilometers from the sea. We find a large beach in Elne that is 700 meters long in a preserved setting. It is mostly visited by families and part of the beach is found in the natural reserve Mas Larrieu and is surrounded by diverse faun and flora that represent the Mediterranean ecosystem. We can get here by taking Avenue de la Mer toward Bocal du Tech. Among other festivities that are not to be missed is “les Sardanes” that is held each Wednesday during the summer and the market in October which gives an occasion to discover this exceptional area.
Near Elne are the beaches of St Cyprien and Argelès-Plage.
