Between the Rhuys peninsula and the Vilaine estuary, Damgan is a seaside resort in the south of Brittany in the department of Morbihan. Its economy is highly dependent on seaside tourism (the population goes from 1600 inhabitants in the low season to more than 30,000 in August) even if there is a significant oyster farming activity (La Penerfine oyster) in the Penerf river. In the Kervoyal district, there are some 17th century Breton cottages
With nearly 8 km of coastline, there are many beaches in Damgan, some of which are little known and not very crowded. The Grande plage and that of Kervoyal are the most well-known. The various beaches are bordered by a coastal path, including the beaches of Ambon which are very close. Many water activities are offered.
Close to Damgan, on the other side of the Vilaine (you have to go around the Vilaine, about 35 km), Pénestin has a very interesting coastline with 13 beaches, including the very beautiful Mine d'Or beach. To the northwest, Vannes, the capital of the Gulf of Morbihan, offers a completely different atmosphere.
