Beaches in Sangatte (62231) France - advise, map and photos

The little seaside destination of Sangatte is located in Pas-de-Calais on the Opale Coast just a few kilometers from Lille. The hamlet at the exit of the city near Calais beach is called Blériot-Plage.

We find a large fine sand beach of eight kilometers that allows athletes and swimmers to practice without being crowded. It is divided into several zones. The zone near Blériot-Plage is more typical with wooden chalets directly on the beach forming a little village.

Tourists take advantage of their stay here by admiring the nearby cape Blanc-Nez, walking along the seafront and looking at the houses built on the dunes or taking part in water sports like kitesurfing, swimming, or other beach sports. Sangatte is known for being a good spot to practice windsurfing and kitesurfing. The wind blows more here than the neighboring towns, but the waves are small nonetheless.

Those who love hiking can walk along the many trails marked along the dunes and at the tops of cliffs, near the wood of Noires Mottes where the view of the Cape is particularly beautiful.

Around the village you can find a thousand things to do, like discover sections of Leulène, an old Roman path, admire the remains of Fort Lapin near Blériot-Plage or discover the many natural areas nearby. Only a few kilometers to the south are Escalles and Cape Blanc Nez offering one of the most beautiful panoramas of the Cote d'Opale. Wissant Beach and the seaside destination is also reputed. More to the south is Ambleteuse with its beach and Fort Vauban, which are must-sees. Audresselles is equally appreciated being one of the last fishing villages in the region.
