Beaches in Meschers-sur-Gironde (17132) France - advise, map and photos

Not far from the beaches of Royan, in the department of the Charente-Maritime, you will find the Meschers-sur-Gironde seaside station. An ancient fishing village that came into vogue at the beginning of the 19th century, the station is situated on the Côte de Beauté and is surrounded by pine woods, notably the forest of Suzac. The cliffs are also remarkable, for example you'll find here the caves of Régulus and Matata, troglodytic habitations that can be explored.

There are 5 beaches in Meschers-sur-Gironde. The beach of Nonnes is the most sport-oriented, with many nautical activites practiced here. The Conche de Cadet, accessible at low tide, features a superb panorama. The beach of Vergnes is more of a family environment and that of Suzac is found just next to the forest. Finally, the beach of Arnèche that we discover while walking the length of the coastal trail, is one of the prettiest in the area.

A boat ride makes the connection along the cliffs of Meschers to reach the Phare de Cordouan, unless one wishes to taste the local specialties: oysters from Marennes-Oléron, sea salt from the island of Ré, melons, asparagus, or products of the grapevine such as the Pineau des Charentes.

Note that dogs are not allowed on any of the beaches of Meschers throughout the year. A few kilometers to the north, you will find the attractive beaches at Saint Georges de Didonne, of which the Grande Plage is one of the prettiest in the region.
