Longues sur Mer is located in Normandy in the department of Calvados 8 km north of Bayeux. With its strategic location between the Omaha Beach (west) and the Gold Beach (east), it was in the heart of the June 1944 landing zone.

Longues sur Mer coastline Sea is composed of cliffs. With its dominant position, the Germans installed a battery on the heights to control the maritime traffic. The site is worth a visit. Nearby, you find the only beach of Longues sur Mer whose environment is totally different than the other beaches of Normandy. Green cliffs without any building just with a few sandbars that are exposed at low tide ... ideal for a family outing. However, swimming is not supervised. Those looking for more security will head for the beaches of Colleville sur Mer and Arromanches-les-Bains.

Longues sur Mer is centrally located for tourism based on the landings of 1944. There are many museums and ruins of the second world war in the neighbouring towns. A nice little known base but close to the most important places.
