Anglet : The most northern resort of Pays Basque near the Landes

Located at the extreme north of the “Pays Basque”, a few kilometres from the festive Bayonne and boasting a coastline of almost 5 kilometres, Anglet is a resort that is both quiet and authentic.

It has the added bonus of an airport with nearby Bayonne and Biarritz allowing foreign tourists to travel easily in the southwest of France and discover the many wonders found there.

In the city, the St. Leon Church is a favourite of the tourists, it is full of charm and simplicity. The stained glass windows are stunning and it hosts many exhibitions throughout the year. The lovers of heritage will choose to walk in the centre and in the small streets where they can admire the typical Basque facades for the nature lovers are definitely the most spoiled in this part of the coast. At the mouth of the Adour, “La Barre” is a meeting place for walkers and fishermen who like to admire the ocean and the views: the estuary, two lakes, a dune, beach and the forest of Pignada. Well laid out, the site offers many activities affecting both the culture, relaxation and surfing. Indeed, Anglet also has a good reputation thanks to the may sporting events held there. The beaches of Anglet span nearly 5 kilometres. The breaking waves can be violent in this part of the Aquitaine coast, dams and piers were built. Bathers can choose from 11 beaches all very clean and supervised. Nicknamed "Little California", you will choose according to your taste the cosmopolitan Marinella beach, the untamed beach of the Ocean and that of Cavaliers where professional surfing competitions are organised.

To make your choice, nothing like a walk along the coastal promenade that connects the “Chambre d’Amour” to Barre, 4.7 kilometres of protected heath at the end of the summer season to enjoy the spectacular spring tides! Legend has it that the Chambre d'Amour is the tomb of lovers being caught by the tide in the seventeenth century, history that participates in the celebrity of the city! Nearby, the VVF beach is also very nice, close to the Biarritz lighthouse.

You can also enjoy the ecological park of la Barre, a good way to raise awareness of ecology through the activities for kids and adults. The Biarritz Golf Club is nearby; it is one of the most famous of the Basque Coast.

You must take advantage of your stay in Anglet to visit the Pays Basque, starting for example by Fontarrabie and Hendaye, on the Spanish border and continuing with Saint-Jean-de-Luz with its cliffs and great beaches never fail to impress. The Chateau Abbadia and the architecture of the city are all assets to be discovered. Biarritz with its dreamy art-deco houses that reflect the glorious past of the city. Inland of the area is just as exciting, Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, Aïnhoa or Espelette are unmissable! A few kilometres north, the long beaches of the Landes are waiting for you to discover its beautiful walks.
