Piemanson Beach in Salin-de-Giraud - France

Our opinion on the Piemanson Beach

Salin de Giraud’s Piémanson Beach (or Arles Beach) is situated between the mouth of the Rhône and the lighthouse of Beauduc. Reputed to be one of the most untamed beaches of France, it extends for over several kilometres with its Camargue landscapes. During the summer, at the car park, there is a lifeguard station.
Bordered by small dunes and lakes, the site is completely untamed. This beach was, until summer 2015, the largest primitive campsite in France with caravans and cabins which settled on the beach early May to late September. The authorities have condoned this vast camp for many years ... where it was not uncommon to see 4x4 and motorcycles on the sand ...

Since 2016, camping is completely prohibited on the beach. The access has been blocked and a car park has been landscaped. Parking is allowed from 6 am to 22h. Do not try to bring your caravan ... no chance to go on the beach ... the only two buildings on the beach are the lifeguard station and the cabin of the naturist club ...

On the left (towards the Rhone), 1 km from the lifeguard station, the beach becomes naturist (signposted –a small white cabin marks the beginning).

This beach is overcrowded in the summer because its access is via a paved road that stops a few metres from the beach (unlike Beauduc where you have dirt track conditions). From the centre of Salin de Giraud, follow the signs to the beach (11 km from the city centre). Note that, from Port-Saint-Louis, this beach is reached by ferry (allows to cross the Rhone without making a detour - € 5 to cross with a car).
